Modern man is faced in his daily life with a number of dilemmas, which are related to Geography. The development of spatial skills plays a big role in everyday life as spatial literacy (eg. how one will go to work, what clothes to wear, how to travel, etc.) seems to have the same value as all other types of literacy (linguistic, mathematical, etc.).
Within the Certificate of Pedagogical and Teaching Adequacy, the Department of Geography offers the course “Teaching suggestions and evaluation in the course of Geography in Education”.
The objective of the course is for students to form a thorough view of the teaching of Geography and to gain empirical teaching experience.
The aim of the course is for students to gain a deep insight into the teaching of geography and gain empirical teaching experience.
At the end of the course, students should be able to:
• Design and develop a teaching scenario by applying specific strategies, selecting appropriate supervision activities and tools and presenting a complete lesson plan.
• Implement lessons based on the lesson plan they have organized and with emphasis on modern teaching methods and techniques in the course of the internship.
• Design an assessment by choosing from a wide range of techniques, such as: multiple choice questions, development questions, matching, filling in blanks, etc.
• Also evaluate the teachings of their colleagues.
The course content includes means, suggestions and practices for teaching geography:
The teaching method is consisting of two hours attending lectures, presentation and extensive commentary of representative “geographical topics / sections” based on the content of the course and one hour for practicing and laboratory work on weekly basis.
The basic Assessment method of the course relies on the submission of lesson plans, worksheets and teaching in the classroom.
